The bedroom is the space that should recharge us physically and morally before or at the end of a long day. It’s where our day begins and ends, which is why it requires special attention when it comes to decorating. A relaxing and well-organised bedroom will give you a restful sleep and the energy you need for a productive day. Today we’ll discuss three of the most important elements in decorating your bedroom: the bed, colours and light.

The bed is the basic element and the one that dictates the layout of the bedroom. It is recommended that its length is 20 cm longer than the body. Also, in order to have freedom of movement in the room, the bed should be placed at least 60 cm away from the wall or other pieces of furniture. Position the bed as far away from the door as possible, at least 90 cm, and exclude placing the bed under the window. The rule established by architects is to position the bed to the south-west. Another important detail is that space between the bed and the floor. Why is it needed? So that you don’t bump into it, but also so that you can wipe away the dust that collects under the bed.

When it comes to colours, Mobilis has the following tips:

  • 60-30-10! This rule involves using a 60% dominant colour (in lighter shades), followed by a secondary colour used 30% and 10% an accent colour that you can use for decoration.
  • It is advisable to use relaxing colours such as beige, blue, lilac, green.

Lighting is meant to enhance the whole design and give the room more personality. Lighting fixtures create a pleasant atmosphere and highlight the colours of furniture and decorations. The Mobilis team always comes up with lighting solutions that will make you fall in love with your home. For more style, we offer our customers lighting built into the furniture instead of hanging lamps.
There are three main areas we focus on: general lighting, bedside tables and decorative lighting. Don’t limit your imagination and plan a lighting system that is as special as possible. Candles, for example, can be replaced by wall lamps to save space on the bedside table. You can opt for dimmable lighting fixtures that allow you to adjust the light intensity.

Last but not least, we will mention the most common mistakes when it comes to bedroom design.

  1. Choosing a bed that is too big. The bed must respect the individual characteristics of the person using it. It should be the right length and width for the room and not become uncomfortable when moving around the room.
  2. Wrong choice of luminaires. In the bedroom, light should be evenly diffused to all corners of the room. The right lighting can create the desired emotional mood at any time of day.
  3. Missing or incorrectly positioned sockets. Power sources are a must in the bedroom. They should be placed 25-35 cm from the floor in accessible places.
  4. Too many pieces of furniture. The bedroom should not be a cluttered room. Don’t think of it as a space to store other things, but as a space to relax.

For a successful bedroom design it is essential to have a plan in place beforehand. The details that our team determines in advance are: who will use the bedroom (child, young person, couple), the location of the bed, environmental factors (brightness, temperature), style, colours. In this case, custom-made furniture is an optimal and even recommended solution. This ensures that the desired design will be exactly as you want it to be and that the furniture will correspond exactly to your tastes and needs.
